Über den Umgang mit Sesamstrasse ("On dealing with Sesame Street") is a German documentary, aired in 1973 on NDR.
“Since January 1973, the German version of the US preschool educational series "Sesame Street" has also been broadcast in large parts of the Federal Republic of Germany under the title "Sesamstraße". However, "Sesame Street" cannot replace pre-school education in pre-schools specially set up and equipped for this purpose. However, since only a fraction of all children in the three- to six-year-old age group mentioned can attend a pre-class, this series of programs is of exceptional importance.
Parents and educators can work practically with the children addressed with this series. The accompanying books, which were published by Verlag Schulfernsehen in Cologne, provide the necessary assistance. In addition to this, so to speak, as an optical companion book, the program "About dealing with Sesame Street" is intended. Parents should learn something about the ideas with which the working group "Sesame Street" went to work, their working methods should be explained. It is also intended to give parents practical tips on how to continue and deepen the work of the project group at home.”
The program was re-aired on January 4, 2023 in celebration of the program's 50th anniversary.
