"99 Bottles of Beer" is a sea shanty-style reverse counting song dating to sometime in the mid-20th century. Its repetitive nature makes it a common go-to on group road trips, but its long duration means it's not often completed. Andy Kaufman exploited this idea in his early live comedy routines by persistently performing all 100 verses.
As a way to pass the time in the Muppet Treasure Island (CD-ROM) game, Rizzo the Rat performed the song as "99 Pieces of Cheese on the Wall" in the style of follow-the-bouncing-ball-cheese on-screen lyrics. He sings a couple of verses before the screen goes blank to load elements of the game. When the scene returns, he's down to the last verse just as he arrives in Bristol Town.
Rentro sings the song while driving the C.O.V.N.E.T. company car in Muppets from Space.
In Sesame Street Episode 3109, Dr. Sing assures Telly Monster that he'll have his arm in a cast for "only a few more weeks" to the tune of the song, which Telly finds himself repeating briefly.
