SCENE 1 David wants to get some new things for Hooper's Store, such as new chairs, a new counter, new register, and a new milkshake maker (as insisted upon by Gina). He shows Elmo the catalogue from a store downtown they intend to buy these things from. Elmo wonders about the fate of the current milkshake makers, which he's taken to name Minnie, Mickey, and Molly (identified by the different-pitched noises they make). David relents and decides to keep the old milkshake machines after all.

SCENE 3 Count von Count has caught word of the possible changes to Hooper's and is especially distraught over the loss of the old counter. He recalls in song ("I Counted on You") all the things he's counted on that very counter through the ages. Midway through his song, David stops Count after a line recalling how he counted elephants on the counter. Count admits it never happened but is upset that it never will, and David is guilted into keeping the old counter, too.
