Gordon finds Ernie and Bert arguing over which of them is taller. Big Bird outsizes them both.

Ernie eats the cake that Bert was planning to eat. Bert sees some icing on Ernie's mouth, a bib around his neck, and a fork and knife in Ernie's hand, and Ernie tells Bert that a monster came in, ate Bert's cake, and put the evidence on Ernie. Bert doesn't believe Ernie's lie and gets another piece of cake, but when he leaves the room, Beautiful Day Monster comes in and does exactly what Ernie told Bert happened to the first piece. Ernie tries to explain, but Bert doesn't believe him.

|
Oscar the Grouch's grandmother, Granny Grouch, comes to visit. Granny Grouch likes to kiss Oscar on the cheek, because he hates it so much.

Ernie opens his lunchbox and finds that half of his chicken salad sandwich is missing. Sherlock Hemlock, the world's greatest detective, investigates this fiendish crime. It turns out that Sherlock himself ate half of Ernie's sandwich.

|
Mr. Hooper arranges some balls from smallest to largest. Meanwhile, outside, Herry Monster, Little Bird and an Anything Muppet have a dispute of who is the biggest, which Gordon solves.

Ten little Greeblies (bug-like creatures) keep getting separated from their group, teaching a lesson in counting backward.

|
Herbert Birdsfoot invents a complicated machine, to test Cookie Monster's problem-solving abilities. Cookie Monster needs to pull the string to raise the glass cover off the plateful of cookies at the other end -- but when he lets go to retrieve the cookies, the cover will fall again. Herbert hears Cookie Monster approaching, and hides to observe him. Cookie investigates the machine for a moment, then gets the cookies by karate-chopping the glass cover.

|
Big Bird almost gets hit by a car; Gordon tells him he should not cross the street until the traffic light turns green.
