A.A. Milne (1882–1956) was a British playwright and author of children's literature and poetry, best known for writing the Winnie the Pooh books.
Several of his poems were used as the basis for sketches and songs on The Muppet Show, including "Halfway Down the Stairs" and "The King's Breakfast" from When We Were Very Young (1924), "Cottleston Pie" from Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), and "Forgiven" (featuring the Milne character Alexander Beetle) from Now We Are Six (1927).
Apart from the Pooh stories and related poems, Milne wrote the mystery novel The Red House Mystery and stage adaptations of The Wind in the Willows and Pride and Prejudice.
