"A Little Bit" is a song sung by Joe Raposo about how little things grow a little bit each day, and how the world keeps on going, with things like sunsets and sunrises still happening every day.
The song repurposes footage from a film entitled "Beginnings" that originally appeared during the first season. An abridged version of the song has also played over films of tomatoes growing (First: Episode 0288) and corn growing. (First: Episode 0298)
Lillian and the cast performed the song in Episode 2839. It was later sung by Lea Salonga, Big Bird, a duck, and the Birdketeers in Episode 3154.
Patti LaBelle and the Abyssinian Baptist Church Chancel Choir performed a gospel rendition of the song in the 1990 special, Sing! Sesame Street Remembers Joe Raposo and His Music and the album Sing: Songs of Joe Raposo released two years later.
The song was also performed by the cast at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1996 (with new verses promoting literacy) and 2001.
