A Trip to the Moon is a 1902 French silent film directed by Georges Méliès. Based on stories by Jules Verne, the film depicts a team of astronomers who propel themselves to the Moon on a capsule fired from a cannon.

- Jack Davis's illustration for October in The Sesame Street Calendar 1972 features Grover slinging jack-o'-lantern guts into the eye of the moon, mirroring the iconic image of the moon oozing goo from its eye in A Trip to the Moon.
- The Muppet Show Comic Book: Family Reunion features a skit in which Fozzie Bear plays Baron Munchausen, a literary figure known for his relationship with the moon. In the background of the scene, artist Amy Mebberson depicted the lunar sphere as a face whose eye has been impaled with a crashed Swinetrek, referencing the iconic image from A Trip to the Moon. In a cross-reference, Méliès also directed Baron Munchausen's Dream in 1911.
