Advent calendars are interactive calendars used during the holiday season as a means of counting the days down until Christmas. The term comes from the Christian tradition of observing the four Sundays before the birth of Christ. Advent calendars have since also been produced for the secular market and usually consist of a themed poster or diorama with a series of small windows or flaps that are opened to reveal an image or a treat of some kind for each day of the month of December until the 24th (or, more uncommonly, the 25th).
