Alphabet Chat
First Appearance Episode 0762
Broadcast March 18, 1975
Additional Appearances

In today's Alphabet Chat, Mr. Chatterly attempts to recite a poem he's written in tribute to the letter L. Throughout his recitation, he's disrupted by Cookie Monster at the window, a repairman hammering at his chair, and a female Anything Muppet looking for her lost animal (which turns out to be a cow pretending to be it). As the program ends, Mr. Chatterly erupts at one of the program's crew members.

Supporting cast[]

  • Frank Oz as Cookie Monster, the female AM, and the stagehand
  • Jim Henson as the repairman and cow

Notes[]

  • Two different takes of the segment were used on the show. In the version used in its initial airings, Cookie Monster asks for a particular cookie, and a Green AM woman wanders on set looking for her kitty cat. In the take used in Episode 1018 and on, more L-words are incorporated in the dialogue, Cookie merely says "Listen!" before leaving, and a Little Orange AM girl comes in looking for her lost lamb Lulu. In this version, the stagehand refers to Mr. Chatterly as "Lyle."
  • The Anything Muppets in both versions of the sketch also appear in Sesame Street News Flash: Man in Snowstorm.
