Ameera and Jad

Ameera is a young monster who uses forearm crutches and a wheelchair because of a spinal cord injury. She made her debut in the fifth season of Ahlan Simsim, an Arabic co-production of Sesame Street.

The bulky, ill-fitting design of Ameera's wheelchair is purposeful, as to reflect that many children in the region are unable to obtain new assistive technology.

“Ameera is a witty 8-year-old green monster with a passion for science and basketball. Due to a spinal cord injury, Ameera uses her bright purple wheelchair or forearm crutches to get around. She’s everyone’s favorite comedian and a natural leader who encourages others with her bright personality. Sometimes, Ameera gets too wrapped up in her own ideas and forgets to notice everyone else’s, but she always remembers that play and learning are most fun when she includes her friends’ ideas too.”
