An Ape Named Ape appeared in the 1997 feature George of the Jungle. Based on the character from the 1967 animated series, Ape is a genteel, British-accented simian who becomes George's mentor and best friend. Due to the stunt requirements for the character, in contrast to some of the other animatronic gorillas, Ape was designed to utilize the suit performer's own eyes rather than taxidermy substitutes.
He later guest stars as Spanky in The Middleman episode "Pilot Episode Sanction" (where he was played by Michael Oosterom).
