Archie the barber, with Misty Rowe and one of the Hager Brothers, watching Big Bird

Archie Campbell (1914-1987) was a comedian and writer best known for his work on Hee Haw as one of the core cast members, as well as head writer. Among his many Hee Haw chores, he sang the recurring song "PFFT! You Was Gone!" (a comedic lament of a lost love), sung sometimes with castmates but often with guest stars whose reveal was a surprise, including John Ritter, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Lorne Greene, Tammy Wynette, and Ruth Buzzi. He played many recurring parts including the barber (sometimes with spoonerism routines, one of his specialties from prior work), local medico Doc Campbell, and judge Justus O'Peace.

Campbell, in character as Archie the barber, attended Big Bird's rendition of "Songs" at Slim's Bar-B-Q in 1981.

Campbell's career dated back to radio and included a stint on Grand Ole Opry. While Hee Haw made him a TV personality, he had a successful career as a recording artist in the 1960s, sometimes including straight songs ("Trouble in the Amen Corner") and novelty numbers (covering "Life Gets Teejus Don't It") but primarily comedy routines often involving spoonerisms, such as "Rindercella" (his version of Cinderella).
