As Long as the Sun Lasts is a sculpture created by artist Alex Da Corte featuring the likeness of Big Bird. The piece was originally displayed on the Roof Garden of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from April 16 to October 31, 2021. The piece is titled after the short story of the same name by Italo Calvino.
The 26-foot mobile depicts Big Bird sitting on a crescent moon holding a ladder. Big Bird is presented with blue feathers rather than yellow, evoking both his image as the "Bluebird of Happiness" from Follow That Bird and the blue feathers of Garibaldo of Vila Sésamo, which Corte had watched growing up. The number "69" is inscribed on the base, referencing the year Sesame Street debuted, as well as the Moon landing and the birth year of the artist's father.
The piece was later displayed on the Calder Terrace at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark from May 17 to October 23, 2022.
