"Ave Maria" is the popular name for Franz Schubert's "Ellens dritter Gesang" ("Ellen's Third Song"), a setting of seven songs from the poem The Lady of the Lake. Since the piece itself had Ellen praying to the Virgin Mary, the composition has been widely used in film and TV for religious or sombre scenes. It was prominently featured as the finale of Fantasia following a night of demon activity that ends in a procession of monks.
