Baby Gonzo is the Muppet Babies version of Gonzo, and an animated version of the puppet from The Muppets Take Manhattan.

As with his adult counterpart, young Gonzo has an obsession with chickens; even carrying his yellow toy chick Camilla around, sometimes imagining her to be real. In continuing the theme, a yellow chick appears on his red jumper.

Baby Gonzo has an unrequited crush on Baby Piggy. While Gonzo had a crush on Miss Piggy on The Muppet Show, it was very brief, lasting only from episode 124 to episode 209. Often Piggy would react to Gonzo's obscene infatuations by screaming at him or beating him up, though in the long run, despite his oddities and behavior, Baby Piggy does indeed care about Gonzo.

A running gag in the series features Gonzo finding something frightening or shocking in unexpected places (i.e. opening a door see a big monster roaring, a train coming towards him, and so on). He likewise experiences mishaps in Baby Animal's "Go bye-bye!" segments at the end of every episode.

Muppet Babies was also the first time that Gonzo suffered from an identity crisis. Although his species had been indeterminate up to that point (he was sometimes referred to as a Whatever or, more often, a Weirdo), adult Gonzo would not worry about his heritage until Muppets from Space, when it was revealed that he was an alien.

Baby Gonzo also appeared in Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue along with Baby Kermit and Baby Piggy.

Muppet Babies reboot[]

For the 2018 reboot series Muppet Babies, Baby Gonzo has been slightly redesigned. The CGI-nature of the show allows for a more puppet-like look by texturing the characters' skin and fur by imitating their respective fabric structures. The redesign provides Baby Gonzo with a more multi-toned light blue and purplish nose, as well as a truly fuzzy body. The two wispy feather-like strands of hair remain, while his arms appear a little longer, and his fingers are now noticeably skinnier. This iteration also proves to be able to move and flex his quite flexible nose.

His chick-adorned red jumper is replaced by a chili pepper t-shirt (a pattern that adult Gonzo has worn multiple times) and red overalls with a white-winged, blue lightning bolt adorning the chest, signifying his stunt artist persona. Unlike the original series, he doesn't have a crush on Baby Piggy.

His Camilla toy chick from the original series is replaced by three real, round-as-a-ball chicks that he is tending to. The three chicks live in the backyard chicken coop, and include a white-feathered one, again named Camilla.

This iteration of the character often imagines himself in the role of a mustachioed villain in either superhero vs. supervillain scenarios (as Dr. Meanzo), or in the Wild West. His weirdo persona is exemplified by his "best friend," the (real root vegetable) Potato.
