Barbara Cook (1927-2017) was a Tony-Award winning Broadway singer and actress who appeared in the special Sing! Sesame Street Remembers Joe Raposo and His Music, doing a studio performance of his song "Winners" and taking part in the celebrity version of "Sing." Cook had previously performed a French translation of the song in a 1980 Carnegie Hall concert (paired with "Sing a Song With Me"), later released on her 1986 album It's Better with a Band.

Cook made her Broadway debut in Bil Baird's 1951 puppet musical Flahooley (singing "The World Is Your Balloon" with various marionettes, including Faz Fazakas as a lion). She want on to star in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! (as Ado Annie), The King and I, and Carousel (as Carrie) and originated the parts of Cunegonde in Candide and Marian the librarian in The Music Man. On television, Cook performed on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Perry Como Show and took a rare straight dramatic role on Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Her sole film credit to date is Don Bluth's animated feature Thumbelina, singing and speaking as the title character's mother.
