Basic Instinct is a 1992 American erotic neo-noir movie directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Joe Eszterhas. The film follows a police detective, played by Michael Douglas, who is investigating the murder of a rock star, and becomes involved in an affair with one of the murder suspects, played by Sharon Stone. The film was extremely controversial due to its overt sexuality, graphic violence, and depiction of homosexual relationships.
