PERFORMER | Bob Payne |
DEBUT | 1959 |
DESIGN | Bob Payne designer/builder |
Bernice is a character from Sam and Friends, and is the first "little girl" Muppet character to be designed. She is also the first Muppet that was neither built or performed by Jim Henson or Jane Nebel, but instead by Bob Payne. On at least two occasions, she was voiced by Jane Nebel.[1]
She notably stars in one of the sole surviving episodes of the series, from November 1959. She appears lip-syncing to a recording of "Singin' in the Rain," eventually drowning in a flood of water.
