Betty Comden (1917-2006) and Adolph Green (1914-2002) were a successful team of musical lyricists, known as Comden and Green, also working frequently as librettists (or "book" writers) for stage works and screenwriters for film musicals. They wrote the screenplays for Singin' in the Rain and for On the Town and other classic MGM musicals, while stage musicals included Fade Out, Fade In, Bells Are Ringing, and Applause.
