Big Bird in Australia

Big Bird in Australia is a television special filmed during the 1984 Moomba Festival in Australia. The program highlights a concert featuring Big Bird, Shivers the Penguin, Bruno the Trashman, and Oscar the Grouch with the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra.

The performance was held on a showboat in the Yarra River on the evening of March 12, 1984. After performing for an audience of 220,000 people on the city side of the river, the boat turned around and repeated the performance for the 80,000 attendees on the opposite bank.

The special was broadcast on October 26, 1984, with repeat broadcasts on June 15, 1985, and April 3, 1986.

• Bruno the Trashman, on roller skates, bringing out Oscar the Grouch, who at first tricks the audience into thinking he had eaten Big Bird, but then reveals that he told Big Bird the concert was at another location, so he can replace the music with grouch music.

• Big Bird introduces his friend Shivers the Penguin, who is shy at meeting the kids in the audience.
