The Black & Minorities Business & Cultural Expo was held on October 1, 1971 at the International Amphitheater in Chicago, Illinois.[1]
The third event of its kind was sponsored by The Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Operation Breadbasket, and held to showcase 500 black business exhibitors with workshop seminars in politics, cultural arts, education, athletics, and music.[2]
The cast of Sesame Street performed at the event, including Big Bird, Roosevelt Franklin,[2] Susan, Gordon, Bob, and Mr. Hooper.
Additional performers included The Jackson Five, Isaac Hayes, Flip Wilson, Bill Withers, and Bill Cosby.[2] Jesse Jackson regularly sponsored the events and performed "I Am - Somebody" which were merchandised as pennants.[3]
