Blazing Saddles is a 1974 film directed by Mel Brooks. It is a spoof of Western films which simultaneously offers social commentary when a black man is appointed the new sheriff of a white town.
References[]
- In the Farscape episode "I Do, I Think," John Crichton threatens to harm himself by putting his finger against his throat. He tells Braca and ro-NA, "Get back or the white boy gets it!" He follows this up by speaking in a different voice and saying, "Don't let them kill me." This mimics the scene where Sheriff Bart uses the same strategy on the bigoted townsfolk.
- Crichton again alludes to Blazing Saddles in the episode "Hot to Katratzi," telling Staleek, "Codes? We didn't need no stinking codes."
- While the phrase has its roots in the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (and the novel it's based on), Crichton's wording and delivery references the way it's spoken in Blazing Saddles.
