Grover Fosse
Bob Fosse (1927-1987) was a dancer and director famous for choreographing some of the most prominent musicals in Broadway and Hollywood history. Some of his trademarks included the use of jazz hands, sideways shuffling, dancers leaning over or against each other to form shapes, finger snapping, and the frequent incorporation of chairs.
The original choreographer of The Pajama Game and Damn Yankees (on stage and film), Fosse staged the musical numbers for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He had more creative control over later shows in addition to choreography, such as Sweet Charity (directed, conceived, and directed the film), Pippin, and Chicago (directed and wrote the book for both). Other movies include directing Cabaret and the autobiographical All That Jazz (which he co-wrote). Fosse, a three-act musical review featuring highlights of his choreography, premiered on Broadway in 1999.
In 1985, Fosse made a cameo in the "One" finale of the special Night of 100 Stars (at #268), later followed by Jim Henson (#272). The following year, both men were featured similarly in an advertising campaign for Mitsubishi.
