Bob Gibson (1931-1996) was a folk singer, songwriter, and musician whose recordings were frequently lip-synced to on Sam and Friends, including by Kermit. Most of the selections came from Gibson's 1957 album I Come for to Sing (including the title song). In 1961, Jim Henson stopped to look up Gibson while driving to California for the Puppeteers of America festival.[1]
Gibson recorded both traditional folk songs and his own compositions, supplying his own accompaniment on banjo or guitar. His adaptation of "I Want to Go to Morrow" was later covered by the Country Trio in episode 105 of The Muppet Show.
Gibson helped introduce Joan Baez to national audiences, while his songs have been covered by the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, and Tom and Dick Smothers.
