Bob Smith (1927-2008), full name Robert Alan Smith and sometimes credited as Robert A. Smith, was a layout and background artist in animation. Smith worked on Muppet Babies as a background designer, and co-wrote the second season episode "By the Book" with writing partner Barry O'Brien. Both received credit as animation writing consultants on Little Muppet Monsters.
Smith began his animation career at Hanna-Barbera in the 1980s, working on Laverne & Shirley in the Army, The Smurfs, The Dukes, the feature film Heidi's Song, Pac-Man, and others. He moved to Filmation for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe before joining Marvel Productions. Apart from Muppet Babies, he did layout, background, or storyboard art for Transformers, My Little Pony, and the special The Monster Bed and wrote, with O'Brien, for Moondreamers and two Blondie specials. Smith and O'Brien scripted an episode of the 1980s The Jetsons revival as well.
Apart from his TV work, Smith spent stints at Disney working on Oliver & Company, The Rescuers Down Under, and The Lion King.
