Bonnie Franklin (1944-2013) was a comic actress best known for her starring role on the Norman Lear TV show One Day at a Time (1975-84). She was also in the original Broadway cast of the 1970 musical Applause, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award.

In 1986, Franklin appeared in the first season of the series Shalom Sesame, a co-production between Sesame Street and the Israeli Sesame show, Rechov Sumsum. In addition to interacting with the Hebrew Muppets and street cast members, she sometimes introduced letters of the Hebrew alphabet (and related vocabulary words).

Franklin also appeared in I Love Liberty, a special that featured an appearance by the Muppets.
