From "The Grandfather"
Bosom Buddies is a sitcom that ran from 1980 to 1982, starring Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari. The two played best friends working in advertising who, to get an apartment in a women's only hotel, wear drag and pose as ladies. At first, only their friend Amy knows their secret, though the second season downplayed the drag element.
Muppet Mentions[]
- In the first season episode "The Show Must Go On," Amy tries to protect the guys by telling neighbors that their female identities "Buffy" and "Hildegard" are sick with the mumps. Henry complains about the choice of illness, but Amy said it sounded cute: "Mumps, mumps, mumps, mumps. Sounds like something the Muppets would get." Henry says it "sounds like something that would make Kermit the Frog sterile."
- Henry and Kip are handling a novelty company account in the second season episode "Waterballoongate." Kip, who's trying to be more mature, asks Henry if the gag items and toys (including Groucho glasses) are childish. Henry's response: "Look, buddy. The Muppets may be childish, but Jim Henson can afford his own planet."
- In the second season episode "Cablevision," while directing a TV show, Kip calls for his cameraperson Amy. When Amy enters in an elaborate dress, he says "My cameraperson is dressed like Big Bird."
- Kip wears a penguin suit, for advertising purposes, in the second season episode "The Grandfather." A little girl asks him, "Are you a friend of Big Bird?"
