"Bumble Ardy" (referred to in production documents as "Bumble Ardy #9")[1] is one of the several numerical-themed short films produced by Jim Henson for season two of Sesame Street (although it did not air until the following season in Episode 0283).
In the short, Bumble Ardy celebrates his ninth birthday by inviting nine swine over to his house for birthday cake and wine. The swine cause quite a mess and when Ardy's mother, the sweet Adeline, returns from work, they all flee. Bumble and his mother make amends and he receives nine kisses.
Production[]
Jim Henson collaborated with several others in producing the piece. Maurice Sendak (who also collaborated with Henson on the "Seven Monsters" cartoon) scripted and storyboarded the segment, and the animation was handled by Fred Calvert Productions. Henson himself was responsible for hiring the cast and editing, along with voicing the titular character.[2] Ken Nordine lent his voice as narrator for the segment, and Marilyn Sokol voiced Ardy's mother Adeline.[3] Joe Raposo composed the cartoon's musical score.[4][5]
Sendak later adapted the segment as the 2011 book Bumble-Ardy.
