CITV (formerly known as Children's ITV) was a weekday afternoon programming block for younger viewers on ITV from 1983 to 2006. During that period, the block broadcast some of Henson's programs, including Fraggle Rock, Mopatop's Shop, and Construction Site.
Appearances[]
During March 1985, Uncle Traveling Matt did a month of presentation.
A Live-hand Muppet version of Matt, performed by Dave Goelz, was used for these appearances, which were broadcast from Central House, the home of Central Independent Television, the successor to ATV, in Birmingham. Matt would announce all the children's programming, except Fraggle Rock itself.
Each Wednesday afternoon, just before an episode of the second season was broadcast, Matt would somehow be distracted and remain unaware that his fellow Fraggles were on TV.
During early 1999, after a showing of Mopatop's Shop, presenter Danielle Nicholls said that if she could have anything from Mopatop's Shop, she'll have Mopatop. That's when Mopatop (performed by Mak Wilson) appeared at the studio, saying hello to Danielle. Danielle was so speechless, she fainted. Mopatop was surprised by her reaction, saying that she needs a rest. He then uses his eye-light and sees that Kipper (another CiTV program) is on next, stating that is one of his favorites.
After an advertising break, Mopatop was dancing and singing to a CITV promo, when Danielle was getting up when she sees Mopatop and fainted again. Mopatop believes she's still resting, stating that she's going to miss Kipper, but he (and the viewers) won't.
After a showing of Kipper, Mopatop stated that he has magic frogs in his shop, as well as whistling fishes, talking mice, and dancing dogs. Then, he said that he's got to get back to his shop, adding to make sure that everything is ready for the viewers' visit, the next day. Saying goodbye to a sleepy Danielle, he danced off to the Mopatop's Shop theme. Afterward, Danielle woke up, saying that she had the strangest dream of Mopatop visiting the studio.[1]
In a "behind the scenes" promo, Danielle visited Mopatop and Poppyduck at the shop after losing Stephen's magic handkerchief. Moosey Mouse shows Danielle a magic handkerchief of his own, which possesses no magical abilities. Luckily, Mopatop and Poppyduck are able to find a magic handkerchief for Stephen called Silky Red, he becomes a bouquet of flowers before changing back. Danielle is happy with this new magic handkerchief and thanks Mopatop and Poppyduck for their help and asks if she'll see them soon, in which Poppyduck says "Very very soon!" Mopatop then reminds the viewers that they can see Mopatop's Shop on CITV. Danielle then thanks Mopatop and Poppyduck and bids them goodbye.
