Cactus appears in the Elmo's World installment "Flowers, Plants & Trees." He asks Elmo if he wants to talk to him, but the furry red one is initially puzzled, unaware of what a cactus has to do with the topic. Cactus explains that cacti are indeed plantlife, which grow in the desert, and can even sprout flowers, but need less water than other flora.
The cactus reappeared in Episode 4183 of Sesame Street (performed here by Tyler Bunch), where he features in the story of "Maria the Cowgirl" and gets a tumbleweed stuck on him. He later appeared (performed again by Bunch) in a Super Grover 2.0 segment set in Utah.
Another Muppet cactus (performed by Joey Mazzarino) helped demonstrate the word "prickly" with Joel McHale in a Season 42 Word of the Day segment.
