"Can Read" is a song about things one can read. The melody borrows a number of elements from, and bears a strong resemblance to, "Fugue for Tinhorns" from the musical Guys and Dolls. There have been three separate performances of "Can Read" on Sesame Street.
The first version features Big Bird, Susan and Bob at a newsstand, reading a book, a magazine and a newspaper (respectively). (Traditionally, "Fugue for Tinhorns" is also performed at a newsstand.) (First: Episode 2268)
The second version was performed in Episode 3129 by Telly, Lillian and Savion, who read the same things as the previous version.
The third version features new lyrics performed by Mr. Handford (who sings about his brownie recipe), Rosita (who sings about a letter from her grandmother) and Ruthie (who sings about her box label). (First: Episode 3337)
