Caroline Cler (1928-2017), sometimes credited as Caroline Clerc, was a French singer and actress who played Augustine on 1, Rue Sésame, the first French co-production of Sesame Street, from 1980 to 1982.
Cler was an active recording artist in the 1950s and 1960s, releasing several albums and singles of her songs. She was often heard on children's records, such as Don Quixote (Antonia), the Tintin series (Bianca Castafiore), and Babar records (Celeste). She was a frequent storyteller on the French Disneyland record label (including The Jungle Book, Sleeping Beauty, and Alice in Wonderland).
In film, Cler appeared in the Russian co-production Tretya molodost (1965, as a singer) and later in Tango (with Jean Rochefort), All Together (with Jane Fonda and Geraldine Chaplin), and Grand départ. She had guest roles on various TV series including crime shows and dramatic anthologies (including playing a hen in a 1976 version of the Chantecler stories). She lent her voice to the French animated feature Les 12 travaux d'Astérix.
