What's the difference between a Licensee and a [[:Category:Toy Companies|Toy Company]]? โ€” Scott (talk) 00:36, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, Licensees also includes Gorham Fine China, American Greetings, etc. -- Danny (talk) 00:42, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
But aren't all the Toy Companies essentially Licensees as well? -- Wendy (talk) 01:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, they are. I think if we were going to choose, I'd rather have Licensees than the other categories. I think it's helpful to have everyone in one place, plus there are some companies (like American Greetings) that make more than one thing. -- Danny (talk) 02:50, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
All set, thanks. โ€” Scott (talk) 03:32, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Attention[]

This category is a real mess. I think it should be split up into different categories -- Category:TV Channels, Category:Publishers, Category:Toy Companies, Category:Video Game Companies, etc. Some of these categories exist, some need to be created. -- Danny (talk) 17:46, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I agree, although some subcategories need discussion, as to what title to use. Jim Henson's Creature Shop could go under Production Companies along with any animation studios or other film companies who have worked on relevant productions, but what about Sony Wonder, Warner Bros., and TriStar Pictures? I favor "Distributors" myself, to include movie studios as well as video distributors, though I guess studios could work. And then there's Muppets Holding Company, which I have no idea what to do with. Can it accurately be termed a "production company" right now, or is it a distributor, or what? Andrew Leal (talk) 18:30, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
""Sony Wonder" actually isn't a company; it's a label, and maybe should be categorized under Sesame Street Video Series, as well as Record Series, although we don't have a category for that. But the company there is Sony.
For the others, how would "Movie Studios" sound? -- Danny (talk) 21:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Movie Studios works, as distinct from Production Companies (which often worked on TV and so forth or weren't strictly "studios"). As for labels, would Music Labels work? That would give one place for Sony Wonder, and take care of a few other companies. I'm also debating whether to stick Hardees, McDonalds, etc. under toy companies, since they're inclusion is due to kids meal toys, but that feels odd to me. Would a Fast Food Companies or "Restaurant Tie-Ins" or something like that be excessive? Andrew Leal (talk) 22:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
How about just a Fast Food category? That would cover it. I think for the labels stuff, maybe just make it part of a larger Sony article. -- Danny (talk) 23:40, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, but Sony isn't the only music label. There's Rhino Records and BMG Kidz (Disney Records is basically a redirect to the Walt Disney Company). So basically, I'm asking how to categorize those two, whether or not we want to toss in Sony. Andrew Leal (talk) 00:07, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
How about Record Companies? That's what Rhino is, and so is BMG (with "BMG Kidz" being the label). -- Danny (talk) 00:16, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, sub-division *almost* done, just a few hold-overs. Danskin isn't really a Marketing Tie-In as defined, or a toy company, so if someone can find more details, I'd recommend renaming it and moving it into a clothes subcat of Merchandise. Odyssey Entertainment, whose article doesn't really define their Henson role but which I found by linking, isn't really a production company or studio, just a finance company, but as a distributor, they can go under Movie Studios for now. It's mainly things like EMTv and the Holding Company, and the Jim Henson Legacy/Foundation, that I'm not sure what to do with (and I've questioned whether Jim Henson Television is needed). Andrew Leal (talk) 22:38, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Maybe we could make a category for Henson Company History, or something like that, for articles on all the various incarnations and sections of the Henson company -- Henson Associates, Muppets Inc., Jim Henson Productions, Jim Henson Pictures, HIT, EM.TV, Muppets Holding Company... There's a lot of them. I don't know if it's worth trying to create a separate article for each one, but it's a possibility. -- Danny (talk) 23:18, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
