Passing References[]

I have been wondering something recently. If the title of a production or book or whatever is just mentioned by name by a Muppet, or in a Muppet production, in passing only, and has no additional Muppet relevance, should we create pages for those productions? For example, in a Muppet Show epsiode, if Kermit starts the show by saying that the guest star had appeared in a movie or TV show, and there haven't been any other references (or mentions of the Muppets in those productions), would they be mentioned? In Episode 502 of The Muppet Show, Pops acknowledges that Loretta Swit is "the star of M*A*S*H. That series doesn't have a page, and I don't know of any other mentions or references to that series. Would it be productive to include a page for it because of that? I haven't seen episode 102 of The Jim Henson Hour, but if Ted Danson's role on Cheers was mentioned, would a page for that be neccessary (we don't have such a page, though there is a page for a different kind of cheers... and the cast of Cheers appear in character in The Earth Day Special, but have no interraction with the Muppets)? Just something to think about. --Minor muppetz 21:38, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

I think it's fairly simple. The issue is, really, if it would make an interesting page. M*A*S*H doesn't really apply, since if you watch the whole episode, Piggy appears as Hotlips at the end (and there's others, I think), plus Radar was named after the *M*A*S*H character and so on, so that will get a full page at some point once we gather it all together. Cheers wasn't mentioned on Jim Henson Hour as far as I know. Apply the same rule we do to so many other things: is there something interesting or amusing or Muppet relevant to make a page worthwhile. Kermit saying "So and so was the star of blank" isn't interesting. If a joke is made about it, however, then it makes sense. See Gregory Peck, for example. A passing reference, but a funny one which places Peck in a Muppet context. Right now your question is mostly theoretical, Michael, but if you're uncertain about a specific instance, feel free to ask about it as it arises. That's been the best way to deal with such issues in the past, and continues to be. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 21:43, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

a few movie and TV refs[]

The Sesame Street 35 Years Anniversary Game cites that Sesame Street has spoofed the following, of which I know nothing about, so I'm parking them here in case they ring a bell for anyone.

Some of them sound like they could be Monsterpiece Theater titles to me. —Scott (talk) 13:32, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Cookie Monster's SNL audition Tape[]

On Cookie Monster's audition tape, Do these count as references?

  • Macarooner, parody of MacGreuber (itself a parody of MacGuyver)
  • The Pilsbury Dough Boy
  • Cookie Monster thanking "Betty Crocker", "Little Debbie" and "Sara Lee"
