Chicago is a lion, who appeared on Sesame Street beginning in Episode 2826 (1991) as a generic character. He was more formally introduced by name in Episode 2911.
Chicago is an unusual lion, a vegetarian with an urban habitat. Chicago loves to hunt down vegetables, sometimes even chasing down people dressed as vegetables. Chicago's favorite vegetable, and dessert of choice, is broccoli.[1] Though he still has his wild tendencies, his gentler side has earned him many friends on Sesame Street (as Mr. Handford had reassured him one time).
In Episode 3161, fish explorer Wanda Cousteau dresses up as broccoli in order to hide from the fish-hungry Wolfgang the Seal. Fooled by Wanda's costume, Chicago chases Wanda.
In Episode 3285, Zoe points out to Zap Mama and some kids that Chicago is sad because he's never been to the jungle. The group cheers him up by making jungle noises with their voices.
Although he was dropped as a major character, the puppet, often still played by Rudman, has popped up occasionally from Season 33 onward (minus eyebrows). Chicago was also seen at the end of a Play with Me Sesame skit in which Super Grover comes in to save the day at the wrong time, mistaking the pretend noises the viewer makes for the real thing.
