Chicago, lion in repose.

Chicago is a lion, who appeared on Sesame Street beginning in 1990 as a generic character. He was more formally introduced in Episode 2911.

Chicago is a bit of an unusual lion; not only is he smaller than most (and either lives in or frequently visits the city), Chicago is a vegetarian. Chicago loves to eat vegetables so much that he even loves to play fun chasing games with kids where he has kids dress up as a vegetable and tries to catch them, especially as a broccoli since broccoli is Chicago's favorite vegetable. Though he still has his wild tendencies, his gentler side has earned him many friends on Sesame Street (as Mr. Handford had reassured him one time).

In Episode 3161, fish explorer Wanda Cousteau dresses up as broccoli in order to hide from the fish-hungry Wolfgang the Seal. Fooled by Wanda's costume, Chicago chases Wanda.

In Episode 3285, Zoe points out to Zap Mama and some kids that Chicago is sad because he's never been to the jungle. The group cheers him up by making jungle noises with their voices.

Although he was dropped as a major character in 1997, the puppet, often still played by Rudman, popped up occasionally from Season 33 onward (minus eyebrows). Chicago was also seen at the end of a Play with Me Sesame skit in which Super Grover comes in to save the day at the wrong time, mistaking the pretend noises the viewer makes for the real thing.
