DEBUT | 1986 |
Chip and Dip are a pair of identical cats who appeared on Sesame Street beginning in season 17. The pair spoke in raspy voices and enjoyed playing tricks on Oscar the Grouch. They also played the drums and piano in Hoots the Owl's band, the Owl-Stars.
They appeared in the special Basil Hears a Noise, in which they sang a brief line in the song "Elmo the King," and at the finale where Basil discovered they were the ones making the strange noises he was hearing from outside the tent.
The duo reappeared in the Monsterpiece Theater sketch "Inside Outside Story." Kevin Clash reprises Chip while David Rudman performs Dip.
The characters eventually were used as stock felines in various segments and episodes for the show.
