The Christopher Awards were established in 1949 by the Christian group The Christophers, recognizing artists in film, television, and literature whose work "affirms the highest values of the human spirit."
Recipients of the James Keller Award, named after the group's founder, have included Joan Ganz Cooney in 1989[1][2] and Caroll Spinney in 2004.[1]
The 2009 ceremony, held on April 16, featured a live performance of "Sing" by the Sesame Street cast, consisting of Alan Muraoka, Alison Bartlett, Emilio Delgado, Bob McGrath, Fran Brill with Zoe, Kevin Clash with Elmo, Caroll Spinney with Oscar the Grouch, Roscoe Orman, and Sonia Manzano.
