The Cleveland Orchestra is considered one of the "Big Five" American orchestras. Located in Ohio, it was founded in 1918.
Big Bird conducted the orchestra in two different years, 1983 and 1984.
The 1983 Family Day event was hosted on June 26, at the Blossom Music Center. Big Bird shared the podium with Cleveland Orchestra assistant conductor Robert Page. Presented twice that day, the program included "pops, classical and Sesame Street favorites." Big Bird's only wand-waving was for Amilcare Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours" from La Gioconda. Oscar the Grouch and Shivers the Penguin also made appearances.[1] The performance was also to include "Sing After Me".[2]
The second event was held June 17, 1984.[3]
