Clive James (1939-2019) was a journalist, writer, and TV personality who started his career in literary criticism. He became a television critic for The Observer in 1972, where he became known for his reviews written with a humorous slant.
As host of The Clive James Show, he interviewed Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy via satellite in 1996 during their promotional tour for Muppet Treasure Island and Muppets Tonight. Two years later, he and Piggy presented together at The Prince's Trust Comedy Gala where the routine ended with James getting karate-chopped.
Some of James's other projects include the travel series Clive James' Postcard from... (featuring Kirstie Alley, Michael Caine, and Don Johnson), Clive James at the Playboy Mansion, several Comic Relief appearances, and the documentary series Fame in the 20th Century.
