VanderBurgh directed, composed, and produced Today's Special, twice being nominated for a Gemini Award for the series. He also worked on kids series Cucumber and Math Patrol.

VanderBurgh is the author of research paper Kids' Shows Hide Reality - Adult Shows Exaggerate It. In November 2011, he and research assistant announced the forthcoming launch of a database of 660 Canadian children's television series.
