DEBUT 1967
Clyde sketches

Clyde is a Muppet character created to sell Gleem toothpaste in 1967. As the company's pitchman, he was paired with the bushy-browed Horace, a consumer who was not interested in the product.

The puppet used for Clyde would later appear, unnamed, in the IBM film "Explosion" (performed by Jim Henson). In the short bit, he mild-manneredly asks Grump if he's enjoying the presentation. In response to Grump's negative demeanor, "Clyde" anticipates that they're about to take a coffee break, then blows up his companion, "Oh, I think you'll get a charge out of this!"

He also appeared in the Sesame Street Pitch Reel (performed by Daniel Seagren) as an executive who posits to the board that the in-development Sesame Street "is a show for kids, right? Well, how's about we call it 'The Little Kiddie Show'?" The ensuing discussion devolves into a riff on extending the title with a series of adjectives that check various boxes for the show's criteria.

The puppet later became utilized as a Whatnot, repurposed with different features, specifically for an appearance on The Flip Wilson Show where he performed "Consider Yourself."
