It's "a quiet night in the detective world," according to Colambo, as he sits in his office. Getting hungry, he decides to have a piece of the Christmas pie which the missus had made. Close inspection reveals a missing plum, as well as janitor Little Jack Horner sitting in the corner.
Colambo questions the nervous custodian, whose initially innocuous answers gradually lead Jack to showing off his thumb, with the incriminating plum still attached. Colambo recites the nursery rhyme to solve the case. Jack assumes he's going to prison, but there's a harsher fate in store: he has to explain to Mrs. Colambo what happened to the pie.
