ColamboPig-title

In the segment's final airing, an animated title is added to the opening sequence.

Colambo tackles "The Case of the Missing Pig." Tom Pipersson (described in the script as a "rather elegant villain") is placing a moustache on a pig to disguise it (as in classic Columbo tradition, the crime is committed, and the culprit known, before the sleuth shows up). Colambo rings the doorbell and is let into the well-appointed living room. The sheepish shamus introduces himself as Lt. Colambo, inquiring after Farmer McGregor's stolen pig. The observant Colambo noticed pig prints and proceeds to politely ask questions (a good way of finding out things). The squealing sounds catch his attention, however, and he points out there's an animal behind the sofa.

Pipersson tries to claim the critter in question is his dog, Champion Stutz Heidelberg von Hamentaschen (or Fido). He's allegedly a pork terrier (Mrs. Colambo loves dogs, it turns out). Colambo continues to politely ask questions about whether the animal, due to certain characteristics, is in fact porcine rather than canine. As Pipersson grows irritated (again in classic Columbo culprit fashion), the lieutenant turns to leave, but he has one last question... for Farmer McGregor (revealing that the wool was not pulled over Colambo's eyes). He takes off the moustache in an attempt to get the farmer to make a positive identification, and he finally exclaims the "pork terrier" is his missing pig Samantha.

It turns out Pipersson also stole McGregor's cow and chicken. Just as Colambo tries to take the perpetrator into custody, however, the farmer declairs Colambo looks like his lost sheep Petey. McGregor drags the detective off, leaving the stolen livestock still in the possession of the perfidious Pipersson (who waves so long).

Notes[]

  • The curriculum goal in the script is stated as "asking questions."
