"Colonel Bogey March" is a popular military march, written by Kenneth J. Alford (pen name for army bandmaster Lt. F. J. Ricketts). The song became a popular hit and was often used by military units, and during World War II, it enjoyed vogue in England as a means of mocking the Germans. In popular culture, the most notable use was in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957); whistled by the POWs and, with a new counter-march by composer Malcolm Arnold, it served as the film's theme.
