Columbia Pictures is a movie distributor. In 1995, it collaborated with Jim Henson Productions to form the short-lived Jim Henson Pictures. This occurred while Lisa Henson was President of the studio, from 1993 to 1996.

The studio's name was represented in its choice of mascot, the symbol Columbia. Bearing a torch and draped in an American flag, Columbia predated both Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty as the personification of America.

Columbia has a sister distributor called TriStar that has also distributed Muppet-related titles. Both make up the bulk of Sony Pictures Entertainment and are owned by Sony.

  • Miss Piggy portrays Columbia, representing the studio Cholesterol, in The Muppets Go to the Movies. Her drape is not specifically the American flag, in keeping with later Columbia Pictures logos which downplayed or removed that aspect.
