Comedy and tragedy

The masks of comedy and tragedy (also known as "Thalia and Melpomene" or "sock and buskin") are two ancient symbols of the theater. The symbols of comedy (a smiling, laughing face) and tragedy (a crying, frowning face) date back to Greek mythology and have been the central representation of the creative arts for decades. Muppet versions of the iconography have been used in various productions and products.
