Gordon asks Ernie to put three balls and a balloon into four small boxes. When Ernie learns the trick, he tries to play the game with Cookie Monster.

Milk and cookie

Ernie is preparing to have a snack but discovers that his milk and cookie keep on vanishing. He eventually catches the culprit, who begins acting affectionately, until Ernie agrees to give him his own milk and cookie.

Musical Banana
Episode 0016
Gordon has four things lined up in a row--a harmonica, a whistle, a trumpet, and a banana. He tells Ernie that one of these doesn't belong, and Ernie chooses the banana because you can make music with the instruments, but you eat the banana... or so he thinks. Gordon tells Ernie to blow into the banana and Ernie appears to be playing a horn until Gordon reveals he was honking a horn behind his back the whole time. Amused by the trick, they decide to play the same joke on Cookie Monster, but Cookie has a different idea--you eat the harmonica, whistle, and trumpet, and make beautiful music with the banana!
This was remade as a Cookie Monster and Kermit sketch with Luis.

What Will Happen?
Episode 0031
Part 1: Gordon plays a game of "What Will Happen?" with Ernie. After Ernie guesses correctly what will happen when Gordon drops a ball and turns on a radio, he asks what will happen when he picks up a bell and shakes it. Ernie says the bell will ring. Gordon asks what else will happen. Ernie doesn't think anything else is supposed to happen. Gordon says that a monster will come out and start blowing a flute. Ernie thinks that's silly, but is surprised when that exact thing happens. Gordon admits that he had worked it out beforehand with Cookie Monster, and gives him a cookie. After Gordon leaves, Ernie has an idea for a trick to play on Bert.

Part 2: Ernie tries to play the same trick on Bert, but when he rings the bell, nothing else happens. Bert thinks Ernie's gone bananas, and he leaves. When Ernie wants to know what happened, Cookie Monster says that he couldn't play the flute, because his mouth was full of cookies.

Sharing a Pillow

Ernie announces he plans to take a nap, but just as he gets comfortable in bed, Cookie Monster (who was hiding in the bedroom) sneaks up and distracts Ernie with a bell, hoping to steal Ernie's pillow. Ernie investigates, thinking the bell was coming from a fire engine, but he reasons that he would still be hearing the bell if it were that; Cookie quickly hides. Cookie tries his diversionary tactic twice more, with Ernie thinking it is the telephone or the doorbell. The third time, Ernie catches Cookie with the pillow. Ernie tells Cookie he can't have the pillow and demands it back, but Cookie breaks down in tears and says how much he wants the pillow. Ernie suggest that they share the pillow, but Cookie - having the wrong idea - takes the pillow and tears it in half. Ernie cries in frustration as he tosses his now-useless pillow on the floor, while Cookie eagerly begins to eat his half of the pillow.

Ernie's Magic Glasses

Ernie has a pair of magic glasses, which help the wearer see things that are invisible. He decides he'll try them after he's finished eating his plate of cookies. Cookie Monster sneaks up behind Ernie and takes a cookie while he isn't looking -- and when Ernie looks around for it, Cookie Monster sneaks another one. Finally, Ernie puts on his glasses, and catches sight of Cookie Monster. Now he's convinced the glasses are really magic -- they let him see an invisible monster!
Bert's "What Happens Next?" game

Bert shows Ernie pictures and he needs to tell what happens next. Ernie imagines some very random scenarios based on the pictures. For the last picture (a man about to drive his car over a nail), Ernie says, "I think a monster's going to appear." Sure enough, behind Bert's back, Cookie Monster appears: "COOKIE!" Bert faints.
Cookie Monster on Ernie's phone

Part 1: Ernie expects a call from Bert, but lets Cookie Monster make a phone call to his mommy, provided it's short. He proceeds to tell her about show and tell at school.

Part 2: Cookie Monster tells his mommy about jumping rope after school and counts the jumps he made.

Part 3: Cookie Monster has counted up to 4,614 by now and asks how his brother Fred is. Ernie offers him a box of cookies to get off the phone.

Part 4: Cookie Monster finally gets off the phone, and then eats it. When Bert calls, Ernie has to talk to him through Cookie Monster's mouth.

Counting Apples

Ernie has four apples, and wants to draw the number 4, showing that he has four apples. However, Cookie Monster wants to eat an apple, so Ernie crosses out the 4 and draws a 3. Then Cookie Monster decides not to eat the apple, causing Ernie to have to cross out the 4 again and draw another 3, over and over again.
Missing Cookies

Someone has eaten Ernie's cookies. Sherlock Hemlock investigates the case. He is asking Ernie questions about the cookies, when Cookie Monster comes by with cookie crumbs on his fur. Sherlock interrogate Cookie Monster, and he comes to the conclusion that Cookie Monster is the theif. Cookie Monster admits it, saying that he is full now and gives Ernie the last cookie, however Sherlock ends up taking it as payment.
Cookie Monster's diet

Cookie Monster tells Ernie that he is going on a diet and won't take his cookies, until Grover tells Cookie that he looks sick.
Who took Bert's cookies?

An angry Bert calls Ernie into the room, accusing him of eating his cookies. Bert uses circumstantial evidence - cookie crumbs on the counter, near the empty plate - and his own eyewitness account (he had seen someone, dressed in Ernie's trademark red and blue shirt, with a black tuft of hair and giggling, near the cookies earlier) to implicate Ernie. Ernie maintains his innocence. Just as Bert begins to ask Ernie who else might have taken the cookies, the actual culprit enters the room: Cookie Monster, dressed as Ernie - complete with a black scalp of hair and his shirt. Cookie grabs Ernie's plate of cookies, greets Bert and giggles just like Ernie. Ernie and Bert collapse onto the floor in disbelief.
Cookie Matching

Ernie tries to find another cookie with a criss-cross of icing. He has trouble matching cookies, but Cookie "matches" them by eating them (putting them all in the same place, his stomach).
Happy/Sad Cookie

Ernie is happy because he is about to eat his cookie, but Cookie Monster is sad because he hasn't had a cookie all day. Ernie gives him his cookie, but now Cookie is happy and Ernie is sad. The two keep passing the cookie to each other as both their emotions exchange. When the two decide to share they cookie, both end up breaking it, and now neither of them are happy!
Selection Song

Ernie sings a selection song using plates of cookies. He has three plates full of cookies, and sings "Here are some things that belong together..." Then he shows a plate full of cookies and an empty plate, and sings "Which one of these things goes with the others..." He says the plate full of cookies, but what he didn't notice was that the cookies on the other plates were eaten while he was singing. Now that there will be a different answer, he sings the song again.
C Words

Cookie Monster hopes his box has a special C-word inside, but instead finds crumbs. He begins to cry, until Ernie provides him with a coconut cream cookie.

Ernie has a plate full of cookies that is near him. Ernie walks away from the cookies that is far from him. While Ernie is far, Cookie Monster eats the plate full of cookies.

Ernie and Cookie Monster discuss hope. Ernie has something in a brown paper bag, and asks Cookie Monster what he hopes it is. Cookie Monster hopes that it is a cookie. It turns out that Ernie has ten cookies in the bag.
Peppermint Sticks

Ernie and Farley are about to eat peppermint stick candy, but Cookie Monster passes by and points out that Ernie's is longer than Farley's, and Farley's is shorter. Cookie solves the problem by eating each stick, each time making the other one longer. He finally gets them the right size--but they are now eaten down to small stubs.
Ernie's Scale

Ernie explains how a scale can determine what is heavier than another object. With the scale, he was planning to split some cookies with Bert, but can't figure out how to do it. Cookie Monster shows him his way of solving the problem: he eats the cookies off each side of the scale until there are no cookies left. Ernie is disappointed since all he's left with is a "really good scale". Cookie disagrees--he's tasted better.
"Dee, Dee, Dee"

Cookie Monster presents to Ernie his new device “The Cookie Counter” which will notify him of the quantity of cookies inside the box. Cookie Monster points “The Cookie Counter” rod to the box of cookies, which rings five times representing the amount of cookies inside the box. Ernie is impressed by Cookie Monster’s device and talks about the benefits the device provides to the audience, simultaneously Cookie Monster eats Ernie’s box of cookies. Ernie tests the Cookie Counter by pointing the rod at the box of cookies, the box doesn’t ring. Cookie Monster asks Ernie to face the Cookie Counter rod to his stomach; it rings five times as proof of the location of the five cookies.
Cookie Safe

Ernie has a bag of cookies, and locks them in a safe to protect them from Cookie Monster. When the monster discovers that the cookies are locked up tightly, he eats the safe.
Identity Crisis

Ernie and Cookie Monster note that they're the same in a lot of ways, and then become paranoid that they can't tell each other apart. An Anything Muppet (Jerry Nelson) tells them how they are different, which relieves them of their stress.
Dr. Monster

Cookie Monster asks Ernie if he has any cookies. Ernie says that he doesn't have any cookies but an apple and he can't give the apple to him because "an apple a day will keep the doctor away." Later Cookie Monster comes disguised as Doctor Monster and gives Ernie a medical checkup. After the checkup, Ernie asks what he owes Doctor Monster. By sheer coincidence, his bill is one apple.
Ernie Gets His Fortune

Ernie tells the viewer to watch and listen for Cookie Monster, so he won't take the cookie which Ernie just got from Hooper's Store. Ernie encounters a machine that reads "Your Fortune Told. Insert One Cookie." Not realizing that Cookie Monster is inside the machine, he inserts the cookie. Some munching noises are heard, and a card comes out that says, "You will soon be kissed by a grateful Cookie Monster."
Fast and Slow Cookies

Ernie promises Cookie Monster that he's not going to be tricked out of his plate of cookies this time. Cookie Monster asks Ernie if he's going to eat his cookies fast or slow and demonstrates by eating the plate of cookies, and in the process finishes the entire plate.
The Cookie Bunny

Ernie meets the "Cookie Bunny" (Cookie Monster), who adds up the total number of cookies he has in his basket. After finding that there are three of them, he decides to hide them where nobody will find his tummy!

Cookie Monster's Baby Cousin

Cookie Monster tries to feed his baby cousin lunch, but she rejects the cookie he tries to feed her. Ernie passes by after a visit to the grocery store, and points out that while both of them may look similar, they are also different. Cookie explains his problem, but finds that Cousin Monster enjoys carrots, apples, and celery. Ernie becomes discouraged since Cousin Monster has eaten all of his groceries, and is left with an empty paper bag. Cookie solves the problem: he eats the bag.
"Breakfast Time"

Ernie invites Cookie Monster over for breakfast one morning, and they sing a ditty about what they like to eat for their morning meals. Cookie likes a soft-boiled cookie with cookie juice on the side. Ernie likes a variety of foods, which he eats on different days. Afterward, Ernie offers to cook him some eggs, but Cookie misunderstands, tells Ernie to have the eggs, and eats the frying pan.
Apple Raisin Walnut Cookies

Ernie helps Cookie Monster in making apple-walnut-raisin cookies, but every time Ernie hands the monster each ingredient, Cookie Monster instantly devours it.

A brief clip from this sketch was used during the 1981-1982 opening for the Dutch version of the show.

One or More Cookies

Ernie has two bags of cookies, one of which has several cookies, and one that only has one cookie. Ernie asks Cookie Monster which he'd rather have, and Cookie Monster naturally chooses the bag with many cookies. However, Cookie is disappointed that his cookies are very small, while Ernie's one cookie is very big, so Ernie breaks his cookie into several small pieces.
None, Some and All

Cookie Monster shows all, some and none using a bag of cookies: he pours all the cookies on the plate, eats some of them, but leaves none for Ernie.
Ernie Copies Bert's Picture
Episode 1439
Ernie plans on copying Bert's felt board template called "Cookies on a Plate in a Room with a Window" which features just that. Ernie goes through various pieces, seeing which ones match Bert's. Once he finishes, Cookie Monster enters the apartment and complements the picture, but likes Bert's more and rips the cookies off the picture and eats them. Ernie sobs, as now his picture is different from Bert's, so Cookie solves everything by eating the cookies off of Ernie's picture.

Cookie Monster becomes happy and sad when he finds a seemingly-empty cookie jar with one cookie left. He becomes sad after he eats it, but Ernie comes by with a bag of cookies for him. But, he becomes sad again when he eats them all.
Getting Cookies Out of Cage

Ernie has put a cookie on a lever, half of which is in a glass cage, diagonally, and wants to see if Cookie Monster can figure out how to get the cookie. Ernie will reward Cookie Monster with a box of cookies under two conditions - by not destroying the display and without his help.

Episode 2027
Part 1: Cookie Monster sleeps over in Bert's bed at Ernie and Bert's apartment (as Ernie explains that Bert is visiting his grandmother). After Ernie turns off the light, Cookie Monster is scared about a monster in the corner, but Ernie points out that it's just a toy chest covered by a shaggy blanket. Cookie ends up sleeping in Ernie's bed.

Part 2: Cookie Monster returns to Bert's bed. As Ernie and Cookie Monster both say goodnight, Cookie falls fast asleep. In a dream sequence, Cookie is at a bakery shop, with a group of cookies flying around and singing about different kinds of cookies, which frightens Cookie Monster. After Cookie wakes up from the nightmare, Ernie reassures Cookie that he was just having a bad dream. So, Ernie gives Cookie a plate of cookies, which scares Cookie, resulting in him running out through the door. Ernie says to the viewers "Cookie Monster afraid of cookies? I don't believe that." Cookie Monster returns, replying "Me don't believe it either" and proceeding to eat the cookies. Written by Sonia Manzano.

Zero Cookies

Ernie is in a counting mood, and decides to count all of the cookies in a box of cookies. Cookie Monster overhears this and asks if he can have all of the cookies after they are counted, and Ernie agrees. But after opening the box, Ernie finds that there are 0 cookies. Ernie has another box, but it also has 0 cookies in it. Ernie then remembers that he put all of the cookies into a cookie jar, and starts to count, but Cookie Monster impatiently eats all of the cookies before Ernie can finish counting.
Cookie Monster's Sorting Song
Episode 3943
Ernie joins Cookie Monster in a game of "Three of These Things" with a hamburger, pizza, cookie, and a fajita. Ernie notes that three of them are round, and that one of them is a dessert. Cookie declares his second answer wrong, and Ernie finds out why: all of the foods were made with cookies in them.
Ernie Protects the Cookie Cookie Monster enlists the help of Ernie to protect the letter "A" cookie. Cookie warns him that he will be very tempted, and beg and cry for the cookie (even resorting to telling Ernie's mommy), but no matter what, Ernie should not give it to him. However, Ernie does give in and give him the cookie simply because Cookie politely asks for it.
