The Flying and Singing Cookies

In a two-part sketch, Cookie Monster sleeps over at Ernie and Bert's apartment while Bert is away visiting his grandmother.

Cookie Monster has curled up in Bert's bed when Ernie turns the lights out. As Cookie settles, his eyes fix on something across the room and he begins to panic. Cowering beneath his covers, he gets Ernie's attention and manages to whisper an expression of his fear: he thinks he sees a monster in the corner of the bedroom.

Ernie assures him that he's the only monster in the room, and chuckles ("Me no see humor in this, Ernie."). Still, Ernie insists that there's nothing to be afraid of; there's just an old blanket on a toy chest. To prove it, he gets up, turns on the light, and points the object out to his frightened guest. Upon returning to his bed, he finds that it's occupied by a now slumbering Cookie Monster.

Later, Cookie is back in Bert's bed where he dozes off and immediately begins talking in his sleep, "Yum, yum." Ernie tells the viewer, "I bet I know what Cookie Monster is dreaming about. Do you?"

The scene dissolves into Cookie Monster's dream which finds him, still wearing the same pajamas, in a bakery. He's excited when a batch of cookies begins dancing around his head, ordering them to, "Come to papa!" However, no matter how hard he tries, he can't reach any of the cookies that dance around his head and tauntingly sing about how yummy all their flavors are.

Cookie Monster eventually begins begging them to go away, which transitions him back to reality, where he's still shouting "Go away" as Ernie rouses him from the bad dream. Ernie assures him that the dream is over, so he can relax and go back to sleep, but Cookie is sure that he can't ever sleep here again. However, Ernie has something to make him feel better: a plate of cookies.

Recalling his dream, Cookie Monster shrieks and runs away making a hole in the wall. Ernie approaches the opening in disbelief, "Cookie Monster afraid of cookies? I don't believe that." Cookie promptly pops through the gap, "Me no can believe it either. Cookie!," and proceeds to frantically devour the plate of cookies.
