Cool Jazz is a routine originally performed by the Muppets on Sam and Friends in 1961, then was done on several variety shows during the 1960s.
The sketch involves three gloved human hands tapping and dancing to a cool jazz rendition of "Flying Home" only to be interrupted by a fourth hand playing "Stars and Stripes Forever" on a radio. This incites a violent reaction from the other three hands, who proceed to savagely beat up the fourth one, destroy the device, and then quickly revert back to their tapping. This repeats once more with a television set until the fourth hand decides to bring out a gramophone which, in typical Muppet fashion, inexplicably blasts the other three with an explosion.
The sketch was taped for The Jimmy Dean Show but never aired.[1]
The sketch was revived for the 2022 season of Puppet Up!: Uncensored, notably replacing "Stars and Stripes Forever" with the "1812 Overture".[2]
