Introduction[]
The Count has a unique way of introducing himself, which usually goes something like, "Greetings. I am The Count. They call me The Count because I love to count things." Other characters have mimicked this delivery with their own variations.
- In Episode 0411, The Count (in a slightly echoey voice) introduces himself to Oscar, who then says "Yeah? Well, I am Oscar the Grouch, and they call me a Grouch because I don't like to be bothered! So, buzz off!"
- In a sketch where The Count gets his mail, he greets himself to the mailman, who introduces himself with "Oh, well, I am the mailman. Do you know why they call me the mailman? Because I have your mail here!" (First: Episode 0420)
- A sketch with The Count and Cookie Monster begins with The Count making his usual introduction, followed by Cookie Monster saying "Me Cookie Monster. They call me Cookie Monster because me love to eat cookies!" (First: Episode 0514) Cookie even goes as far as to mimic the Count's quick darting in and out of frame and dramatic exit.
- In a sketch where The Count goes to the bank, he greets himself to the banker, who then says "They call me the banker because...I work in the bank here." (First: Episode 0602)
- When The Count appeared on Beat the Time, after his introduction Guy Smiley tells him "Well, I'm Guy Smiley. They call me Guy Smiley because I changed my name from Bernie Liederkrantz." (First: Episode 1698)
- In Episode 2308, The Count introduces himself to Forgetful Jones, who then says, "I'm Forgetful Jones, they call me that because...oh yeah...because I forget things."
- Telly considers welcoming the viewer in Episode 3746 with a "Grrrrreetings!" à la the Count's Transylvanian accent.
- In Sesame Street's 50th Anniversary Celebration, during a sequence where Joseph Gordon-Levitt is inserted into various clips from the show, following the introduction sequence from the aforementioned clip with the Count and Cookie Monster, he says "Hi, I'm Joe. They call me Joe because... That's my name."
